Investment-grade Colombian emeralds, sourced at origin
Direct mine access through multi-generation relationships. Certified provenance. Discreet consultation for private collectors, family offices, and institutional holdings
Visual quality assessment
Investment-grade emeralds are distinguished by specific visual characteristics that collectors and institutions recognize immediately.
Exceptional saturation
Deep, vivid green with optimal tone. No gray or brown modifiers. This level of saturation is rare and commands significant premiums
Eye-clean clarity
No visible inclusions to the naked eye. Minor natural characteristics under magnification are acceptable and confirm natural origin.
Minimal treatment
Untreated or minor treatment only. These stones represent less than 5% of Colombian production and hold long-term value.
Investment qualification
Not all emeralds qualify for long-term holding. We select stones based on enduring criteria established by leading auction houses and private dealers.
Exceptional colour saturation
Deep, vivid green with optimal tone and secondary hues. Colour remains the primary value determinant for emeralds of this grade.
Structural integrity
Eye-clean to near eye-clean clarity. Minor natural inclusions acceptable if they do not compromise durability or visual appeal.
Provenance and certification
Colombian origin verified by independent gemmological laboratories. Complete documentation including mine source where available.
Rarity over size
Quality concentration matters more than carat weight. Untreated or minimally treated stones command significant premiums.
Size and rarity relationship
Value appreciation is not linear with size. Quality concentration in larger stones creates exponential rarity.
2–3 carat range
Exceptional quality in this range is more accessible. Suitable for clients seeking entry-level investment stones or matched sets for jewellery.
Indicative range: USD $8,000–$25,000 per carat for top-tier colour and clarity
7+ carat range
Maintaining vivid colour and eye-clean clarity above 5 carats is exceptionally rare. These stones are considered collector-grade.
Indicative range: USD $30,000–$80,000+ per carat for museum-quality stones
Independent verification
Investment-grade emeralds require independent laboratory certification. We work exclusively with internationally recognized gemmological institutions.
Origin analysis
Trace element analysis confirms Colombian origin and identifies specific mining regions when possible.
Treatment disclosure
Complete transparency regarding clarity enhancement. Untreated stones noted explicitly in certification.
Quality grading
Detailed assessment of colour, clarity, cut, and carat weight according to international standards.
A different approach to emerald acquisition
Investment-grade emeralds are not traded on open exchanges. They are selectively released through established relationships with mine families, private dealers, and specialist brokers.
Colombian Gems operates within this network. Stones are acquired directly from origin, evaluated against institutional criteria, and certified through recognised laboratories.
Availability is limited by geology, not marketing. Relationships matter more than price lists. Consultation is private, and transactions are discreet.
Certification
Stones are submitted to leading gemmological laboratories including GIA, GRS, Gubelin, and SSEF for independent verification of origin, treatment, and quality.
Documentation
Complete traceability from mine to acquisition. Origin documentation, laboratory reports, and purchase records provided for all investment-grade holdings
Geographic presence
Direct operations in Colombia for mine access. Regional offices in Sydney and Perth for Asia-Pacific consultation and viewing by appointment.
Private consultation
Investment-grade emerald acquisition requires time, discretion, and specialised knowledge. We work directly with qualified buyers to identify suitable stones and provide independent guidance.
Initial consultations are conducted by appointment. Viewings available in Sydney or via secure virtual presentation.
